How to Operate an Automatic Watch (Screw-Down Crown)

1. Unscrewing the Crown

  • Hold the watch firmly.

  • Turn the crown counter-clockwise (towards you) until it pops free.

  • Now the crown is in Position 0 (free/spinning).

2. Manual Winding

  • With the crown unscrewed and still in Position 0, turn it clockwise.

  • Wind 20–40 turns to fully charge the mainspring.

  • Don’t overwind — resistance means it’s full.

(Automatic watches stay powered with wrist movement, but winding after the watch stops is essential.)

3. Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown fully out to Position 2.

  2. Turn the crown to set the correct time.

  3. If your watch has a date, avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM (can damage gears).

4. Setting the Date (if applicable)

  1. Push the crown to Position 1 (half-way out).

  2. Turn the crown until the date changes.

5. Securing the Screw-Down Crown

  • Push the crown completely in.

  • Turn it clockwise while pushing gently until it catches threads.

  • Screw down until snug — don’t overtighten.

This keeps the watch water-resistant.

6. Daily Use Tips

  • Wear it regularly to keep it running.

  • If unused for a day or two, it may stop — just wind and reset.

  • Always screw the crown down before hand-washing, swimming, or showering.
